Clinical Specialty-wise NPI Data — Healthcare Providers by Specialty

Filtering by specialty does not change the structure — your specialty extract uses the same clean, relational model as the national file, just scoped to your chosen taxonomies and linked end to end by NPI. That keeps it straightforward to load, join, and analyze. Here is how the files fit together:

• Entity Type.csv:

  The spine of the extract. One row per NPI, with the entity-type code that routes each record to people.csv (individual clinicians) or organization.csv (group practices, facilities, suppliers). The National Provider Identifier is the unique key that ties every other file together.

• PECOS and LEIE Flags:

  Entity Type.csv carries PECOS and LEIE flags drawn from CMS PECOS Medicare-enrollment linkage and the OIG LEIE exclusion list. At a glance you can tell whether a provider in your specialty is Medicare-enrolled and whether they appear on the current exclusion file — useful for both targeting and screening.

• Integration with Other Files:

  Because every file shares the NPI key, joins are immediate and reliable. The NPI links entity_type.csv to Medicare-enrolled providers' PAC ID and enrollment ID, so enrollment context travels with each specialty record.

• Taxonomies and Other IDs:

  This is where the specialty filtering happens. The Taxonomies file (taxonomy.csv) holds up to 15 NUCC taxonomy records per provider — code, classification, primary flag, and license — so you can isolate a discipline precisely and see secondary specialties too. The Other IDs file (otherid.csv) adds up to 50 legacy and payer identifiers for matching against your own systems.

• Locations and Other Organization Names:

  The Locations file (location.csv) carries primary and secondary practice addresses plus business mailing addresses, telephone, and fax — the contact detail your specialty outreach actually runs on. The Other OrgName.csv file lists alternate organization names so entities are recognizable however they are referenced.

• Medicare Specialty Information:

  The medicare_sec_specialty.csv file pairs Enrollment IDs with secondary-specialty values for practitioners and DME suppliers, joining back to entity_type.csv by Enrollment ID or NPI — handy for refining how a provider is classified beyond their primary taxonomy.

Because the breakdown follows NUCC taxonomy, you can be as broad or as narrow as the work demands — a whole field such as behavioral health, or a single classification such as interventional cardiology, dental surgery, or DME supply. The result is a focused, current dataset for specialty recruiting, product marketing to the right practices, referral-network mapping, and clinical market analysis.
